James James gravestone
« on: Friday 14 July 17 03:02 BST (UK) »
Would someone please be able to translate what the inscription says on the attached gravestone for my GrGrGrGrandfather James James and his daughter Mary James in Llanguicke, Glamorgan.

I know the dates. James James died on the 16 April 1874 aged 58 years and his daughter Mary died on the 16 March 1874 aged 14 years.

Hi,

Will give it a go but consider myself a little on the rusty side

Coffadwriaeth = rememberance, memory
Am = of (Mary)
Merch = daughter (James James) Clynboidy Plwyf Llangiwg (parish Llangiwg)
Bu Farw = died  (March) Mawrth 16 1874
Yn (at) 14yr Oed (old)
Hefyd = also (James James) and then date of death you have.

1871 census family living Clynboidw

Unable to see the bottom, if there is more.

Cas

Thank you Cas

That is just what I was wanting.

There is another buried there hidden behind the grass, Margaret James who died on the 4 February 1882 aged 60 years wife of James.

Many thanks for your help

Pauline
