That's what I'm thinking but so far can't find the link - nearest to the Walter,son of Ellen, the laundress and  aged 17, on the 1881 on the 1871 is in barnsley and has parents named William and Alice

Found the family of the John who married Ellen Craven on the 1861 in Halifax- RG09/3277/45/15

John, 8
Thomas, 5
Samuel, 2

All  except James, b. Warley, Halifax, Yorkshire

So - two Johns born Warley about same time - James and Samuel possibly brothers?

None of this solves Tim's query, though - just proves the family that Kevin found was not the correct one.
