His Hussars number gives a joining date of around mid-late 1901 so just about in for someone born 1881.
Do you have anything to suggest either of these are your man ?

His Wife was from an Army Family &  there are photos of her & a corresponding one of a dashing soldier with a Ceremonial War Sword. He was wearing a stack of medals in old age but i can't make out the type!!

The Boer War 3rd Hussars man was Albert of Boscombe near Bournemouth, father John of Boscombe later London served 10 99 to 01 05 - doesn't seem to add up with Marylebone.
