Perhaps try to find birth certificate of Annie born ca 1864 Liverpool? And on earlier censuses....

No but occasionally they state cause of death.

In 1891 RG12; Piece: 2969; Folio: 123; Page: 2; as found by CaroleW - I would say name for Catherine & Annie is spelled Coughlin, but it will only be spelled as the householder or enumerator decided to spell it.

Slight connection to Preston - in 1881 Annie Coughlan b 1861 Liverpool was in service in Preston (see my edit to reply above)

There is an Ann Coughlan birth in Liverpool March qtr 1865 - GRO search shows mothers maiden name Cavanagh

Unlikely to be a daughter of Catherine but could be a granddaughter

I've just been trying all the usual wild cards and permutations on the 1871 without any luck
