I do have a general question… What was life like on these farms in the 1700s and 1800s? I have done some research online, so I have a little idea. I think about the very long days of summer you have, but also the very short days in winter. Did they work through the winter? I assume they had livestock and animals, but in terms of planting, that must have been a short season. I know there were some years with bad crops, so that must have been very hard on people.
My relatives moved to Connecticut between 1890 and 1906. They were tradesmen and work mostly in construction. In fact, my great grandfather built many houses in Bridgeport Connecticut that still stand today. They were very involved in the Swedish Baptist church in the United States. I believe one of the reasons they moved, besides economic opportunity, had to do with religious freedom of expression.
We are all spread out across the United States now, but most of us live in Florida and have for decades.
