Hi
They married in Normlösa. He was mentioned in Törnevalla because I suppose he was living there.

"Can you help me try to find a birth record (or any pre-1830 record) for Nils (Magnus) Jonsson?  All the records I see of him state his birth year was 1806, but no day or month."

Farmhand Nils Magnus Jonsson:

Ian:

Thanks so much!!  You are amazing!!  I'm off to work but will digest all this info tonight.

I spent probably a dozen hours a few months ago trying to trace another relative...Emma Gustava Swensdotter/Swensson.  I think I figured out most of it.  She ended up in Stockholm at Hedvig Eleonora (possibly twice) and Jakob before moving to the US in 1889.

She was born 24 Sep 1866 in Ölme, Värmland. She was born an illegitimate child.  She lived in Ölme until 1885 when she went to Stockholm. Her mother was Britta Johansdotter born 11 Oct 1843 in Ölme.  Her stepfather was Karl Fredrik Stolt.  I believe her biological father was Sven Gustaf Petersson Sjögren born 26 Feb 1844 in Ölme.  Emma married in the US in 1895.

If you have time, could you check on her around her birth?  I don't have the links handy, but I can get them tonight.  I want to be sure Sven Gustaf Peterson Sjögren is in fact her true biological father.

Thanks again!

Hi

Cheers Paul.

I am pretty sure this is Nils Magnus: Högsby CI:4 (1780-1832) Bild 128 / sid 249 (AID: v39050.b128.s249, NAD: SE/VALA/00160)
 - born 19 Sept 1806 to Jonas Nilsson and Cathrine Carlsdotter.

Hi Ian:

Thanks for this!  I'm just getting home and looking through all of the references that you sent. One of  them you mentioned earlier for Nils had his birthday three days off (16 of Sept vs 19) from this record, but that doesn't surprise me since most of the time they only put 1806 with no month or day. I am a direct descendent of his, so having his parents' names will help me trace back another generation or two.

Thanks again.  Let me know if you find anything out regarding Emma Gustava Svensson and her biological father.

Paul

Hi Ian:

I just went over everything you sent me today.  I can't tell you how easy you made it for me!

Can you translate these few words?

Thanks,  Paul

Hi

The first one says "Hinderslöshet bet......." - without digging further it usually means that someone is free to marry, in other words a spinster or a batchelor. Perhaps he married shortly after the date stated.

The second one says "frikallad" - meaning in this case, exempt from national service, perhaps because of illness, family problems or of that ilk.
