I am trying to find information on my ancestors. From what I have been told, they come from Ireland. Possibly Atrim. His name is Allen or Alexander Nichols born 1715. Unsure of the date of death. He had a son named James Nichols born in Ireland on 8/20/1760 and died in 1810 in North Carolina. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to Rootschat  I can't see any connection with your Nichols family to the people in the previous thread but will ask a moderator to split your post into a separate topic so it won't get overlooked.

Unfortunately, the period you are looking at has few surviving records (if they ever did exist) and the best chance of finding any further information (without a more exact place than "Ireland possibly Antrim" might be in North Carolina records- local histories, etc.

You can continue down through Grffiths valuation 1860s to the census  1901/1911 etc

All I am hoping to reveal to you is the brickwalls facing you unless some further information turns up to guide to a place or existing tree etc PRONI seems a good place to exhaust to get any connection to any irish record.   Church records survive  but which church and EVEN then you are not sure of county etc.. At least you know you are a Nichols.

If I was a betting man the most likely places are Ahoghill, Connor,Drummaul, Dunluce, and Portglenone judged by the Nicholls who have stayed.  Or the other hand, a covering bet would be the places they don’t live in any longer.  to continue that theme you would need to include  results from Griffiths. see http://www.failteromhat.com/post1845.php  Griffiths which is many times more inclusive and accurate compared to the much smaller and known to be incomplete Tithes.  probably Ballycor, Ballymena, Finvoy, Kilwaughter.,  But the focus point of the Nichols past population appears to be Portglenone
