Loughorn/Newry all records for Boyd
« on: Tuesday 18 July 17 02:54 BST (UK) »
Hello,
I would greatly appreciate any and all help in locating many records.
My Boyd line comes from the Loughorn/Newry area.
I am hoping to find a marriage record with names of:
William Boyd b: ? and Margaret Gibson.
Margaret was born abt: 1790-1795. I would love to verify
Margaret's surname of Gibson. Others in the family (without)
any kind of records state that is not her last name.
I am going by Gibson since that is the name given on
her daughters death certificate.
I am praying that maybe William's and Margret's parents name
can be found as well.
It has taken me 47 plus years to get this far.
I feel they had more children than what I know of.
Here is what I do know of their children:
David Boyd b: 1818-1820. Came to the USA with mother Peggy aka Margaret, 1852.
Samuel Boyd b: 1821-22.
Mary Boyd b: 28 Oct 1824, married James McKee on 13 Oct 1845 in Loughorn/Newry,
they both came to the USA. Note that James McKee's parents were: James McKee and Susanna Gibson. Now could Susanna and Margaret be related?
James Boyd b:? According to David's will, James was deceased by 1898. Remained in Ireland.
Margaret Boyd b:?
Margaret above went by Eliza (her full name was Margaret Elizabeth Boyd), married
a David Burns. Came to the USA.
According to David's will James had the following children that I know of.
Sarah, Mary, William, Owen, Hugh.
By 1898 Mary Boyd was married to a Mr. Fearon in  Restrevor.
By 1898 Sarah Boyd was married to a Mr. Keenan in Restrevor.
William Boyd was in Belfast, in 1898.
And Owen was in England according to the will documents.
He was in Newcastle Upon Tyne on Mary 19, 1898, according to Criddle & Criddle
attorneys that contacted the estate of David. These are all the receipts with names
and places listed. I did not see anything received from Hugh. I must go through over
a hundred plus pages.
I do not know who James married. But by the receipts the girls sent back here,
James was deceased and was from Loughorn.
I want to take this time to thank you for your help. I appreciate this very much.
I have dug through records , but have come up empty.
Kind regards,
MWarner

I am going by Gibson since that is the name given on her daughters death certificate.
Best to keep an open mind as the details on the death certificate could be incorrect depending on whether or not informant knew correct details.

By 1898 Mary Boyd was married to a Mr. Fearon in  Restrevor.
Rostrevor is in Kilkeel Poor Law Union (PLU) & registration district, Kilbroney civil parish.

A John Augustine Fearon married a Mary Boyd (father- James) in 1864- https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:FGZQ-18L
Some children- actual birth certificates free on Irish Genealogy site
Mary Anne (1865) https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:F5PT-38G
Susanna** (1866) https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:QL3W-2KKF
Joseph (1869) https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:FPD1-N9G
Sarah (1870) https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:FPYG-2RD
Edward John (1872) https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:FGH7-VHF
George (1875) https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:FGZ8-JYN
David (1879) https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:FP7M-R5F

** extraction is incorrect- should be Rostrevor (subdistrict), Kilkeel (district) not Rostnoor, Kilkeel, Ireland and not Kilkeel, Éire  ::)

By 1898 Sarah Boyd was married to a Mr. Keenan in Restrevor.
A Thomas Keenan married a Sarah Boyd-
Sarah (1874) https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:FPM1-SGX
Mary Ann (1877) https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:FPQZ-7MH
Hugh (1879) https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:FGJD-Z6V

John A. Fearon, wife Mary & some children in 1911- married 47 years, 9 children (4 living)- Mary age 70 so born c1841-
www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Down/Rosstrevor/Church_Street/246550
same family in 1901-
www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Down/Rosstrevor/Church_Street/1237256
John Fearon listed as merchant, etc. so soon as PRONI's Will Extracts site working you can check for a Will (at least it's not working for me this morning)

Rostrevor comes under Kilbroney R.C. Parish and lots of their registers online (again, free)-
http://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0450

A Sarah Keenan (widow) with son Hugh might be Sarah (Boyd) Keenan- Sarah born c1849-
www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Down/Rosstrevor/Water_Street/1237335
Same household in 1911- Sarah had 6 children (3 living)-

I want to thank each of you for your kindness in assisting me. I have much to learn and
need to find out more. Especially any death records on all that I have listed. I hope to learn
when James was born. And hoping to locate a death record on William Boyd. I suspect he
could of passed before 1852. Once again I appreciate your kindness. Hoping to learn all
I can.
Thank you.

Civil registration of deaths didn't start until 1864. For people that have died after that date you can search the Irish Genealogy site (link given above but not all death certificates scanned yet) or
Family Search to narrow down possible date and registration district - Irish Civil Regstration Indexes-  https://familysearch.org/search/collection/location/1927084?region=Ireland

Thank you, I truly appreciate your kindness and time in assisting me. This has been a very long and hard road. For George Fearon it states retired seaman. Was he military or not? But I did find my Owen Boyd b: Ireland (son of James Boyd). He died in Newcastle upon Tyne on 23 Oct 1914.
Now to find out if his wife and children remained in the UK or returned to Ireland.
Would you know if there are any Irish boards where we could look to see if there could be living family members still? They could know more than we do.
Once again that you for everything !
