I would guess that this one is a possible match for your Candian:

Canadian Virtual War Memorial
John Allan  died September 21, 1916
Service Number:71237
Age:22
Canadian Infantry (Manitoba Regiment)
Division: 43rd Bn.
Additional Information:
Born: September 26, 1893 Dalcross, Invernesshire, Scotland
Enlistment: October 25, 1914 Winnipeg, Manitoba
Son of John Allan, of Ayton, Berwickshire, Scotland; husband of Sarah M. Mills, of Kersquarter, Kelso, Roxburghshire, Scotland.
Cemetery: VIMY MEMORIAL ; Pas de Calais, France

Did Dalcross have a church, or did they use the Petty church?  If they used Petty I guess you don't need to look any further.  If not you need to see where his parents/wife/siblings were around the time the memorial was erected - if one of them was in Petty then he's very likely to be your man.

You should be able to find his service record in the Canadian Archives (their records did not get burnt like ours).  That may give you more family details.

Good spot Newburychap, the existence of another place called Petty 70 miles away threw me for a bit.

This man's service record is here:http://www.bac-lac.gc.ca/eng/discover/military-heritage/first-world-war/personnel-records/Pages/item.aspx?IdNumber=4926.  As you can see, it gives the name of (presumably) his father with an address in Spean Bridge.

It is with great difficulty I share with you that in the early hours of 07 August 2021, Maximilian passed away unexpectedly but peacefully.

With deep sadness,
