Mitcham Fair Possible Connection
« on: Wednesday 19 July 17 08:05 BST (UK) »
Hi all,

I'm hoping someone can help with either proving or disproving a old family story. My Grandfather used to tell me this himself so it's not a passed down story.

My Grandfather, David Harris (b.1905) used to travel from Westminster to Mitcham with his father David Charles Harris (b.1861 in Walworth) with the horses.

Once there he was told to tell any ride owner he was Dave's lad and he would get free rides which he used to do.

David Charles family:
Father William Harris from Walworth, Surrey.
Mother Emma nee Nicholls from Westminster (the Nicholls originate in Beccles, Suffolk)

Williams Harris:
Father George Harris from Hampshire.
Mother Susannah from Devonshire.

Few years ago when I was driving past the Mitcham Fair I noticed a lorry with the Nicholls name on it. Coincidence ?

Whilst the romantic in me would love to believe that we have travellers in the family, the realistic side of me leans more towards it not being true.

If anyone could help with this I would be grateful.

Thanks,

Neil.
