Parish in Perthshire but where?
« on: Wednesday 19 July 17 11:59 BST (UK) »
Firstly hello to everyone - it's been a few years since I picked up my FH again. Even now I still seem to have very little time! :(

I have a little pesky I need help on.  This image is from the marriage of William Clink and Isobel Archer in the parish of St Martin's Perthshire 1st Feb 1714.  I have snipped a section from the record to post for help.  The full entry reads quite clearly, and the word in question is repeated also seems clear but it doesn't seem to exist? If you guys agree what it says I'll head over to Perthshire board for help.

William Clink in the parish of [Rogartoine] and Isobel Archer in this parish being orderly proclaimed in this parish were married at [Rogartoine] [scribble] 1714

The closest parish name to this one in the area is Redgorton. Could it be?

Thanks,
Pam

The second letter is an 'e' not an 'o'. I think the whole word reads Regortoune or Regortowne.

Yes, I see that now against the "e" in "being".

There is a definite pen stroke like a dot on an "i" on both occurrences of the word.  There isn't any other random pen strokes anywhere else on the page so it seemed deliberate.

A search of Scotland's Places turns up a result in Perthshire for Regortoune Monydie & Ochtergaeven

Ha ha - I think you have it Jen!

Did a quick google and found this...

List Lord Nairne For his lands in the parishes of Regortoune & Monydie

It's from Scotlandsplaces from 1691-95 so it is connected Moneydie which is close to St Martins and appears in the Clink family.

Thanks!
