Private Hugh McDonald

I'm trying to establish this man's Scottish connections. He was born in 1875 at Lara, Victoria. His father was Angus, and I think his mother was Jessie Buchanan. I don't know if he had any siblings. On leave, he fetched up in Dundee, Scotland, on 6 August 1917, and died from a fractured skull without any indication of why he was in Dundee or who he was there to visit. I guess the assumption would be that he was going to visit relatives of one of his parents. No relatives attended his funeral and he is buried in Dundee.

And do a name search for him with his number 2705 you will be able to read his file.  He had a wife Selina.  Hope this helps.

We've been through his Service Record, but unfortunately, it does not help in tracing any Scottish connection.

Thanks for that. It would be good if there was any information in Australia of, for example, his father's dob, birthplace or date of arrival in Australia. Unfortunately, by the time the lad got to Dundee, he was very drunk and nothing on his person gave any indication why he was there.
