Parents marriage:

Reg. year1869 MCDONALD Angus to BUCHANAN Jessie

Jamjar

Still can't track his father's origins. Too many Angus McDonalds listed in Scotland. Date of birth would help or immigration details.

Thank you, Rosie. Yes, we also have the witness statements taken by the Police as part of the investigation into the death. Not only was there nothing on his person to indicate why he was in Dundee, his wife wrote that she could not understand why he was there and no relatives turned up for the funeral. Can I ask you why you feel his father was from Skye?

Just to clarify
Here is the marriage correctly expressed. It is from a privately held index. Not from an Ancestry transcription.

McDONALD, Angus (born Invernesshire)
BUCCHANAN, Jessie( born Isle of Skye)
year 1869
Registration number 917.

You can download an image of the marriage of Angus and Jessie for $AU25.10 (or the marriages for Hugh)

Victorian certificates are very comprehensive and from this you should be able to see the following information which may help.
Marriages
 Date and place of marriage;
 name and surnames;
 conjugal condition, whether bachelor or spinster, widow or widower, (stating date of decease of former wife or husband);
 children by each former marriage;
 birthplace;
 occupation;
 age;
 residence (present and usual);
 parent's names of each party (including mother's maiden name) and occupation of    father;
 signatures of the parties and witnesses;
 signature of Minister.

Seeing as he was very drunk perhaps he was headed elsewhere and got lost, especially as no relative attended the funeral. Perhaps going to Inverness and got on wrong train. ???

As Judith has suggested think that would be the best thing to do get a copy of the marriage and see what it says  :)

This doesn't help with the search other than to confirm he had brothers ...

But here are some touching memoriam notices for Hugh McDonald who was accidentally killed in Dundee.

1918 http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article119750032 (from wife and children)

1919 http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article4708330  (one from wife and children, one from father-in-law and mother-in-law and one from brothers and sister-in-law)

1920 http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article4591684  (wife and children)

1921 http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article4679338 (wife and children)

May I ask Cramond Brig if you are a descendant or if are you perhaps filling out some local Dundee history?
