can you read this?

My great-grandfather was a 'journey rider' in a Breconshire mine (see attached). Can anyone read what has been scribbled above this description in the 1901 Census entry, and if so is the scribble of any significance?

It looks like "base born" but I don't know why it would be written there.

Edit  No, on second look it clearly isn't.

Think I see Below - i.e. worked below ground in mine.

It is definitely 'Below'! (now you have pointed it out ... didn't see it at all before!)
But why would the census taker add in this comment and what does it mean? Any thoughts?

It was for coding the occupation afterwards for statistical purposes. Those who worked below ground had a different occupational code than surface workers who did the same job.
