phishing problem
« on: Wednesday 19 July 17 19:48 BST (UK) »
I received an email, supposedly from RBS bank.       It is suspicious because I know that the bank will NEVER contact me by email.       I phoned  0800 161 5154 and they advice that if I haven't opened it then no need to worry but to forward it to the number 88355.

Problem is I don't think that's a telephone number.     I tried it and nothing happened.
Mystified as to exactly what is meant by 88355

No.     I won't open it.      I don't fancy that at all.       It tells somewhere not to open it.

88355 is the telephone number to which  RBS tell you forward a suspicious text message.

On the incoming emails, the email in question says:

       Royal Bank of Sco...
       John, your Travel need-to...

That is exactly what the preview to opening the email says.       There is a dash between need and to, so bad English equals a scam, to me anyway.       I don't want to open it and forward it.
I think I should just bin it.

I have had various phishing emails; I just find the 'forward phishing emails' email address and forward the rogue email.  Not had any problems.

        nanny,
Just one last question.      Did you forward the email without opening it first?
