Groom this is much more difficult than anticipated . I thought someone would say it's  Manchester or somewhere , I didn't expect this. Obviously I haven't studied this painting intently  :-\

Did they have double decker buses on the continent? Maybe it isn't actually anywhere!

I wondered that.  ;D

The women are all dressed well and that is a 'posh' bus shelter if that is what it is to the right of the picture.  It looks like a queue for a sale around the building  ???

Are there not some clues from the fashions, I see two ladies with fur trimmed collars and matching gloves, wearing high heeled shoes not really suited to wet windy late afternoon in the uk,
A modern looking tram, I cannot find an image of a bus with a central solitary light either front or back,  but a pre war car alongside, and a I has had it for decades, how many decades I wonder.

I think there is too much artistic licence to be sure, but it has a ring of st. Petersburg as a pure guess.

What I find puzzling is that, on older buses, there is a cab for the driver, and a radiator. The windows would be smaller, also.

The large windows are very similar to modern DD buses.

It's certainly a conumdrum!

Strange how we see different things . Where you see a bus shelter I see a stall for (possibly) a Christmas Market. It appears to have a chimney  :-\

I find it very strange how the column, which looks as if it ought to be fairly old, appears to have a modern building really hard up against it, and seems to be built on a strange anonymous looking base  :-\

I'm thoroughly enjoying everyone's input , thankyou all.
Mike I've had this nearly 3 decades. It was given by unknown to a distant rel of mine who kept it in a cupboard as she detested it. I know nothing else about it.
