Army Uniform WW2
« on: Friday 21 July 17 17:11 BST (UK) »
Can anyone either tell me about, or else give me a good resource for identifying and describing this army uniform from conscription in 1939. I have noted that the tunic is jacket style rather than blouson, that there are pleats in the breast pockets, there are five vertical buttons, plus buttons on the breast pockets - are these likely to be brass, or are they just uncovered to save fabric (as was the practice later in the war I believe, to save material/money) As there are pleats in the breast pocket the latter explanation doesn't seem to fit though. Also the collar - is this 'stand and fall' or 'mandarin'? Would it have been khaki? How long was this uniform issued after the outbreak of war (i believe the blouson style, with pleat-less pockets etc replaced it)

I have attached a photograph which i have lightened to better show the details

I'm not sure.
No 1 Dress "Blues" usually have collar dogs, but that might be post WW2. This photo looks to be pre-war ?
