Help needed for parents occupations and poss transcription error?
« on: Saturday 22 July 17 18:45 BST (UK) »
2 questions if anyone can help me

a)What are parents occupations on this certificate.
b) I am hoping there could also be a transcription for the bride's surname as on records it is shown as Andrews. Person I am looking for is Ellen or Helen Landrow (spelling cld be diff) but everything else on the certificate tallys up re William Henry Laken's profession as painter and parents names.

Appreciate any help

Hi,
My twopenneth for what its worth!
Occupation of the groom's father Ropemaker?
Occupation of the bride's father ? Wright?
Brides surname reads Andrews to me. Could be Landrow and misheard by the minister or maybe he couldn't read his own writing!
Best of luck with this,
Ray

First birth for them shows mother's maiden name as LANDRO:

LAKEN, WILLIAM  HENRY GEORGE     LANDRO
GRO Reference: 1880  D Quarter in POPLAR  Volume 01C  Page 695

From their 1891 census entry in Bromley:

William H Laken 31
Helen Laken 28 b. Poplar https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:261F-5QF
William H Laken 9
Maud Laken 6
Ellen Laken 3
Rosie Laken 5 months

Monica

Added: Daughter Maud - LAKEN, MAUD  ANN JANE     LANDRO

I see the Groom's father as Rope maker and the Bride's father as Pipe W?

Plus, to me the grooms occupation looks like Plumber rather than Painter.

I think William Laken might have been a witness at brother in law, John Landro's wedding in 1891. Father John's occupation is showing as just labourer on this.

John Landro senior on the census is shown as 'mariner' and on his marriage details.  After his wife died looks like remarried but died before appearing on next census.  Reckon it's back to the drawing board with this one
