India:.... Cecilia Jane Matthews/Edwards nee Hackle
« on: Saturday 22 July 17 19:31 BST (UK) »
Hi there

I am searching the British India Office records, I found a marriage of the above to lst Wm Edward Matthews and then Richard Edwards (Royal Artillery) in Bengal area, they were in the military.  However Cecilia said she was born about 1869 in Bengal from the census here in UK but I cannot find a birth record for her back there.   I have the tree downwards, and a possible marriage of a William Hackle in Bengal to Isabella Thompson nee Richardson, I cannot prove the link really. I am stuck with going back further.  Any advice appreciated, thank you

There's a sister Amelia Jane born 25 November 1866, baptised as Amelia Jane Huckle on 13 January 1866 at Allahabad. Parents William, a shunter, and Isabella.

She was married in Calcutta on 8 July 1882 (as Amelia Jane Hackle) aged 15 to Andrew James Hanton, Eastern Bengal Railway.

Matthews wasn't in the military. He was in the Traffic Department of the East India Railway.

Hi again

Thank you to ShaunJ and maddys52, I can tell you that Richard and Cecilia Jane Edwards came back firstly to Newcastle upon tyne 1901 census and then 1911 census Rochdale Lancashire but I dont know how far I will get with Cecilia ?  there was reputedly some Indian ancestry on Cecilias side dont know if a red herring.
