Loughborough look up please
« on: Sunday 23 July 17 10:55 BST (UK) »
I'm referencing this thread:

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=698155.0

Still looking for more details of John Watkinson.

What I have so far, as well as further details of his son-in -law from thread above (and it does say in the links in the thread that the family is buried at Loughborough church - but whether that is just the son-in-law or includes the Watkinsons, I don't know):

John Watkinson, gentleman, of Loughborough, died between July 1778 and Jan 1779.

I know of only 1 child, Elizabeth, who was born after 1758 (much referenced in thread above) -- but where and when? did she have any siblings?

John had a mother in law, Rebecca Wilmot, and a brother in law, Richard Wilmot. I don't know John's wife's name but she predeceased the writing of his will -- so death some time between 1758 and 1774.

So I would like to be able to find John's wife's name, any details of marriage and any baptisms for Elizabeth and any other children.

Any help would be gratefully received! Thank you!

From the available records on FindMyPast, there are no burials in Leicestershire for John Watkinson between 1753 and 1798.
Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

A little bit of help, perhaps in your search, Diddy.  The third codicil to his will was dated 17 July 1778, and the will was proved at Canterbury 27 January 1779.

All Saints, Loughborough:

30 November 1765 - Elisabeth daughter of John and Elisabeth Watkinson - baptism

same date:

Elisabeth, wife of John Watkinson - buried

Earliest burial of Wilmot at All Saints is James - 1846

This might be a better bet for John's wife:

All Saints, Loughborough - 27 May 1764

Mary, wife of Mr John Watkinson

Added:  so is this John's first wife?

thank you -- that gives me something more to search on for the marriage.

but if Elizabeth was baptised as a baby, that would make her only 14 when (with her fortune of £20000) she eloped to Gretna Green to marry against the wishes of her guardians, a few months after her father's death!    :o :o :o :o
