I have found 3 brief mentions in the local papers of the Buffs golfing society, playing at Dover and Sandwich, against local players, but I would think the trophies might be for "internal" tournaments. Also found a listing in the National Army Museum catalogue (via Google) of a 1926 photo relating to the society, and several silver trophies, which belonged to the Buffs Regimental Museum, so I may have seen them in the past at Canterbury!

Thanks for that "Top of the Hill" I never understand the places and names after  postings. Are you interested in the Pay family of Kent? My wife's mum was a Pay. Her grandfather met an Ipswich girl while his barge was in Ipswich docks. From then on the family grew in Ipswich

Yes, the Pays are one of my main interests. It sounds as if your man was one of the sea-faring Pays from Dover or Thanet - mine were mainly inland. Do you know much about him?

I know about Edward Pay, but he was born at St. Margrets at cliffe in 1847 and died in 1911. He probably is not that side of the Pay's you are interested in? He skippered for Edward Packard of Felixstowe, who was one of the founders of Fisons. One of his barges sank in the Swin ( Thames Estuary) it was called the Dewdrop and was in collision with the SS Dundee.

I have been re-visiting some work I did several years ago on the Pays at St Margarets. Do you have any of Edwards ancestry? I think there may be a distant link with my family, and also with James Pay, who was cox of one of the lifeboats. Have you come across him?

Hazel has a James Pay 1853 father Edward Pay and mother Susannah Wellard. I have been as far back as Hazel great x 10 grandfather Wellard. !520 when Henry 8th was 29 and at The Field of the Cloth of Gold in France. There is probably a lot of James Pay's in Kent and Sussex.

It is just the Golf tournament I was hoping someone had something about it. Thanks again.

A couple of old newspaper items (maybe the names will help you in some way):

First is from 1925, and the second is Apr 1926:
