Hello,

Frederick BLACKHURST arrived in Fremantle as a "Parkhurst Boy" aboard the Mary on 24/10/1849 and was employed as a Farm Servant by George CHRISTMAS near Northam up to June 1851. He was the son of Henry BLACKHURST and Annie BLACKHURST (nee BILLINGSLEY).

Despite extensive research through TROVE etc. I have failed to find any further information for him after 1851. Can anyone help please

Thank you for the suggestion.

Sadly, BATHURST was equally unsuccessful and the name was regarded as a "copying error" in his WA convict record.

Blackhurst, Frederick, b.1832 (England), d.4/1878 (Esperance), arr 11/1849 per MARY, Parkhurst Boy. Listed in YORK Census 1859 as employed by Geo Christmass as shepherd. Lit, Prod. Shepherd for Dempsters at Esperance 1970s.

Thank you for the helpful details of his death.

It seems possible he spent his working life as a Shepherd and may not have left any family, widow and children. Hopefully that detail can be confirmed, although there were no entries in the BDM Index......knowing me, however, I could easily overlooked them in my search

This probably won't help you much and you may already have it, but in the book "The Dempsters" by Rica Erickson, page 89, while talking about the shepherds, it says the following:
"Some of these men, such as William Stewart, Isaac Fallon and Fred Blackhurst, were to remain at Esperance for decades". I think this was in about 1865.

All the contributions have been excellent, confirming he was probably a shepherd for most of his life until his death in 1878.
