Marriage record for William Goddard and Eliza Stockton
« on: Tuesday 25 July 17 13:15 BST (UK) »
Hello,

My great-great-great-grandmother was Elizabeth Stockton. However, she is difficult to pin down. I can find no marriage record to William Goddard (1841-1891). After his death, she disappears completely. Her birthplace is given as Woodcase (?) Staffordshire, and then Folkestone, Kent, on the two censuses she appears on (1881 and 1891). The Goddards lived in Chadwell St. Mary, near Grays, but later moved to Chelmsford and Boreham.

I would appreciate any information,

Adam McGregor

Hello,

I am interested in finding a record. The people on this website are for more skilled than I at finding records, so I wonder if you could find this one, if indeed it exists.

William Goddard (b. 1841, Chadwell St. Mary)
Elizabeth Stockton (b. ca. 1840, unknown)

Probably in the early 1870s or late 1860s, most likely in Essex.

Thanks,

Adam McGregor

Are they together in 1871 census?
Year and pob of first child may also help in the search.

Neither of them can be found in the 1871 Census. The earliest birth I know of was 1874, in Chadwell St. Mary, my great-great-grandfather, Verdant.

Rosie99,

Yes, but another census gives it as Staffordshire. Stockton is a northern surname, so I don't know what to believe.

In Chadwell St Mary, there is a marriage of a William Goddard to a Minette Whale in 1862.William of full age and Minette 19yrs and both single.Williams father is also William and a blank space for Minette.
I see one child baptised to this couple, also called William in 1863.
I wonder if this is your William, but I can't find anything out about Minette, or a death for her.

William's father was William, but I'm not sure if he had a son called William. There was a Walter and Verdant, my great-great-grandfather.
