I think we've all been looking!!

We have 1881 haven't we (they aren't actually married then - maybe one of their first spouses is still alive?)

1881
Primrose Hill
Chelmsford
William 37 ag lab bn Chadwell
Elizabeth 36 bn Staffordshire
Mary 12
Ruth 7
Verdent 5
Sarah 3
Walter 2    all children bn Chadwell
Walter 22 unm boarder  Brewery labourer bn Chadwell

And 1891
Lion End, Boreham
William 52 ag lab bn Chadwell St Mary
Elizabeth 51 bn Kent Folkestone
Verdant 15 bn Chadwell
Walter 12 bn Stanbridge
Hetty 9 bn Wallasea Ireland
Florence 1 bn Middlesex Fulham  (modified, sorry this is actually age 6)

I wonder if this Elizabeth is actually the same one?  Has the mmn of Florence been checked .....(on the case!)

Yes. Come 1891, the family have had children in Fulham and other areas. Elizabeth's birthplace is given as Folkestone, Kent.
Lipman family of Aldgate - ends with Lewis Lipman (d. 1871, Bethnal Green), son of John Lipman 'late of Glasgow' (1856)
McGregor family of Fodderty - ends with Alexander McGregor (b. 1765, Fodderty), son of Murdoch McGregor and Kate Stewart

Not seeing a birth for a Florence in 1890 with mmn Stockton or HArden or similar

I think there is the possibility that the 1891 Folkestone Elizabeth may well be a new lady in his life, and not the same person as the 1881 Staffordshire Elizabeth, who he seemed to marry in 1882.

Modifed - see a few posts later on. Florence is actually 6 not 1, and there is a birth for her with mmn Stockton

That's a logical conclusion. I'm going to start looking at 1851 and 1861 census records for a Henry Stockton and an Elizabeth Stockton.

No!!! Forget all that I said before!!!!

Looking again, Florence is age 6, not 1.

And here is her birth:
Jul/Aug/Sep 1884
Fulham
1a 271
Florence Goddard
mmn Stockton

SO - it looks as if it IS the same Elizabeth after all.

Forgive me for making complications where there weren't!

Right. So Elizabeth Stockton was recorded as either being born in a non-existent place in Staffordshire, or Folkestone, Kent. Not sure where to go from here.

Maybe a red herring, and fathers name doesnt match with later marriage, but thought mayber worth keeping on a back burner -

From familysearch

Marriage
12 MAy 1873
Tunstall
Eliza Stockton (father Joseph) and George Harding (father James)
Edmonds/Edmunds - mainly Sussex
DeBoo - London
Green - Suffolk
Parker - Sussex
Kemp - Essex
Farrington - Essex
Boniface - West Sussex

Definitely something to bear in mind. My great-great-grandfather was born the year after that marriage, which may account for the supposed rift between the married couples.

I'm afraid I've drawn a blank on the mysterious Elizabeth Goddard. Her daughters, Florence and Hetty also disappear after the death of William in 1891.
