Lyons family death in 1930's Dun Laoghaire
« on: Tuesday 25 July 17 13:39 BST (UK) »
Just posting to see if anyone would have any suggestions on how I could find out if there was any deaths of a Lyons family in the 1930's in the Dun Laoghaire area that would have led to children being orphaned.   From what I have been told there were three Lyons Children that were orphaned in the 1930's and possibly went to St.Josephs Orphanage in Dun Laoghaire.   One of the children's names would have been Kitty / Catherine or  Kathleen.   I have been searching the 1911 census records,  but without knowing the address / general location of the original family I can't trace them backwards.
So I am wondering if anyone might suggest a way I could check death records for Dun Laoghaire in the 1930's for any Lyons.  Thanks very much

Did you post about this before, have a feeling I looked for Lyons deaths before.
Irish Genealogy
Rathdown Lyons deaths 1925 to 1940

They could have died in a Dublin city hospital so you may have to widen the search area.
This site will give you Certs of death up to 1966 I think, could be '65.

Mike

Do you have a date of birth for Kitty / Catherine or  Kathleen LYONS?
This could help locate a first name for her parents and help in a search for deaths.

Also did she marry? have you seen a marriage certificate for a father's name?
If married in a Catholic Church and not in her home parish, the church may have a record of her baptism which should name her parents.

If orphaned and placed in an orphanage in the 1930s I would assume the children were aged approx 14 or younger or else they would have been started in a job.
This would imply that they were born after the 1911 census although their parents could be listed.

Hope this helps a little

Thanks for your suggestions. Unfortunately I don't have a date of Birth for Kitty,  or her possible siblings. She did marry (apparently) but it was in the UK in the late 60s or 70s.

The only thing I heard was that there were three Lyons children put into the orphanage together, and that might have been Kitty and her two siblings.  I am following up every possible lead as if I could find any of her siblings descendants they would be distant relations of mine.

I realise its an absolute needle in a haystack.
