Donald Skinner Stewart
« on: Tuesday 25 July 17 16:15 BST (UK) »
Hello all

A little stuck here helping a friend and hit a brick wall as such any information would be appreciated Donald Skinner Stewart was born in 1925 on the 9th January 1925 at 230 high street registration district Hackney (appears to be an hospital )  his mother is listed as Rosina Stewart, Kitchen Maid of 290 Millfields road,  Lower Clapton..... his birth was registered on the 2nd march in 1925 there is no father listed.... my friend was told that Donald was dumped on orphanage steps and that is all he knows he did not even  know about Rosina until the birth certificate was purchased ... Donald cannot tell us anymore as he died in 1989

I have considered that she may have been rosina skinner and married using her maiden name as the babies niddle name but cannot find anything to bac this up..

thanks for anything at all

More likely she was single. Skinner may possibly the name of the baby's father, but it may also just be a family name that Rosina chose to include, or name of someone who was particularly helpful to her and she wanted to recognise.

thanks Liz

i have suggested that she could indeed be single .. and hoping that there may be records of the orphanage somewhere but we do not even know the name of that ... interestingly when he married Elizabeth mathieson in 1952 he was wrongly listed as Ronald S Stewart...

thanks

thank you for that i have a few marriage possibilities for Rosina we know nothing at all about her so stuck at Donald's  birth in 1925 unless i can shed any light on the orphanage records .... even though he was taken to the orphanage he kept his name... w know he must have been adopted but know nothing of that either ..

thanks again angie

1939 Index has;

Donald S Stewart 1925
George E Emerson & 3 others..

But it's the wrong area, Liverpool C.B, Lancashire  ???

Is the name Ronald wrong on the Index or is it actually used on his marriage rather than Donald?

Did he ever mention his 'adoptive' parents or did anyone know of them?

The address on his marriage may be the address of his 'adoptive' parents which may be searchable?

So sad when you read such stories  :(
