Sorry Ang,

I didn't realise you hadn't known of the 1939 Register which can only be accessed on Find My Past.

The Index is free & gives minimal info. & it's a separate charge to view the full transcription.

There are another 6 individuals in the household which are locked which means they may still be living.

Hmm...

1 in Lancashire as Ronald Stewart 1925 but no middle initial with a William Stewart & 1 other.

Probably not him but I wonder why he used Ronald on marriage especially if he knew his name was Donald?

Annie

I think he was either misheard or gave ronald as his name however he was born donald and died donald...

the emmerson household on the 1939 index shows him as single it is 100% him as the date of birth matches he is a seaman with a warden and assistant warden also two other boys there and 6 closed records...

thanks for putting us on to that

Glad you found him 1st off!

I wonder if you can find Rosina in 1939?

There doesn't appear to be many with that name so that may help a great deal  :-\

In 1931-1935 Electoral Registers Rosina is listed at 290 Millfields Road, Clapton (same address as Donald's birth cert).  She is listed as Rose Stewart, also at the same address is Emily Norriss.

wow thank you for that information there is one more thing that has just come o light apparently Donald was brought up in saint adelaides orphanage until he ran away at 14 to join the navy which tallies perfectly with the 1939 entry

Rosina is not at 290 Millfields Road in 1939, a couple with the surname Terry are there.
