Daughter Elizabeth 1807 seems to be common law with George Ludkin(s)/Lutkins
Ref 1851 census Back Lane, Chadwell Heath
Listed as Eliza Duncomb
The children are all registered as Ludkin mothers maiden name Duncomb/Duncum
Eliza died 1885 registered Romford
I was looking for the children I  hoped that the elderly parents lived with them.

Thanks for the further help.

Charlotte Duncomb & Samuel Root are my GGG Gandparents.

I have the Lucy & William Duncomb marriages the same as you have found.

Didn't have any info on Elizabeth Duncomb. That is a good find.

Surprised we can't find Moses Duncomb burial/death at least, because of the rare christian and surname combination.

Outside possibility?
Death, Dec 1839 Epping vol 12 page 79
Duncombe, Elizabeth
age 75

Epping includes places like Chigwell, which is close to Barking, Dagenham, where you have your people.

But if Thomas was born anywhere near to his 1812 baptism date, your Elizabeth is unlikely to be that 1761 Barking baptism?

Thanks for your help John.

The age of 75 for that Elizabeth Duncombe death looks interesting.

If it is my Elizabeth she would of been about 48 when Thomas was born. He was born on the 4th Jan 1812 according to the parish register. If Elizabeth was the Elizabeth Peerman born 1761 she would of been nearly 51 when Thomas was born.

I might have to order that death certificate now.

But maybe not immediately!
I haven't been able to find a burial for that Elizabeth Duncombe. But if someone can, then it just might lead to an earlier burial in the same place of Moses. But it might not! We don't really know who she is at the moment.

I have some individuals who may be linked in with this couple, although it's conjecture only at this point and at best will be a bit of a convoluted path to them from me so I've not spent a lot of time looking, indeed it was only seeing this post that brought them to mind.

My lot were in Shoreditch in the 1800s.  John CORKERY is one of my direct ancestors and he married Dinah BARRETT at Hackney in 1822.  He died in 1828 and in 1831 Dinah married a second time, to William DUNCOMBE.  The PR for this marriage shows that both were illiterate, so the surname spellings could be quite fluid.  From the marriage of one of his daughters I believe William might have been Willam Henry and censuses suggest he was born in the first decade of the 19th century.  If anyone can interpret his 1851 census birthplace - New... Middlesex - I'd be appreciative.  I can't find him after 1851, and (confusingly) there is another William DUNCUM born Hoxton but living in Sussex with a different wife.  I don't think it's my man leading a double life because of the occupation, but that other man could be a cousin or other relative I suppose.

There were a number of children born to William & Dinah but the only one I've paid much attention to (because she was easy to find) is Martha, who married Henry John LACK at Hackney in 1859.  Martha's name was given as Ann Martha Sparks DUNCUM when she married, which almost matches her 1836 Hoxton bap.  All parties marked rather than signed.  I wonder whether SPARKS/SPARKES was a surname from a previous generation.

If my earliest DUNCUM (or whatever) is related to the Essex family there's a bit of a gap to fill.  First of all I need to find William's birth/bap, and as at the moment I can't make out his birthplace and I have a ten or so year window to work with, that's a bit of a challenge.  Is anybody able to give me any leads?

Jane :-)
