Could you post a snip of the place of birth on her death certificate?  Might be helpful  ???

Hi Judith
Here is the snip of where Helen was born. I think I'm going with Holbrook near Culcairn and Wagga Wagga and have asked the local history society to do some research

Anybody have any suggestions about the word perhaps? Sorry it needs rotating - my PC skills haven't been able to do that from the image!
Many thanks
Meegan

Hmmm, it's certainly not an easy one - looks like Wallbrook or Hallbrook, neither of which come up on Goglemap.

Wikipedia says this about Holbrook so there was settlement there early enough.

The town was originally called Ten Mile Creek and the first buildings were erected in 1836. A German immigrant, John Christopher Pabst, became the publican of the Woolpack Hotel on 29 July 1840 and the area became known as "the Germans". By 1858 the name had evolved into the official name of Germanton, though the postal area retained the name Ten Mile Creek. In 1876 the name Germanton was gazetted and the old name Ten Mile Creek consigned to history.

Perhaps it was the name of a property?

Hopefully others may have a better idea.

Google comes up with a couple of references to a Hallbrook , which I don't have time at the moment to follow up.

There is a Hallbrook near Niangala which is in the Tamworth/Walcha area.  It seems to be a property rather than a place (hope that makes sense).  There are some mentions on TROVE of the name.

TROVE also has this mention of a school extension at Wallbrook near Burraga, NSW which is closer to Caloola where the family was later (about 35k).  TROVE's mention implies that there was a school there earlier than 1912.

The earliest TROVE mention of Wallbrook is in the Bathurst Free Press 1855'

Land for sale, 1856

Looking further at Google there are entries about Walbrook which appears to be the same place, spelt Wallbrook earlier according to the NSW Government land sales mentioned above in TROVE.

Where was the next child born?

To me this is looking a better bet than Holbrook as I see the family stayed in the area near Bathurst.  I note also that at times the spelling was QUIN.

I left a message on their message bank.

Here’s my thoughts:

NSW ER 1870 West Macquarie has WALLBROOK
NSW ER 1878 West Macquarie has both WALLBROOK and WALBROOK, but seems to be spelling variation only.

Seems my grey cells worked, although no return phone call, I guess rellie must be in Bathurst, shopping.  Anyway, google searched for Georgiana County, NSW  leads to…. Walbrook is in the Oberon Shire.    Pay NO attention to the GPS as it will take you to somewhere near the Pilliga (between Coonabarabran and Narrabri, on the Newell Highway, so NOWHERE near Oberon.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Georgiana_County

PS, google maps ….  Walbrook Creek, Isabella NSW 2795
I think the GPS should be 33o 54’ 41.1” South and 149o 37’ 44.2” East.

I think that would support Judith’s sightings in Trove re school near Burraga.  ;D
