FindMyPast have transcribed it as Kinghorn, so Dreghorn is paossible

The only Kinghorn (I know of) is in Fife on the coastal trail but there could be others in Scotland?

In the 1871 census transcription David's birthplace is given as Hingham, Ayrshire.
Is there such a place?

What was the area he was living when the 1871 census was taken?

Annie

Added...To help, can you transcribe what it says please as records can't be found via references on SP i.e. need complete info.?

No credits used, just Ancestry/FindMyPast and a free SP search
I realised that by 1881, David had the same profile but a different wife.

A quick check on SP confirmed that 1st wife, Elizabeth died in 1876 and a very probable remarriage to Isabella Morrison in 1877.

Most census returns show David's place of birth as: Kincardine.

Either of his marriages should give parent names.

Edit:
Just spotted the Military docs for son Andrew who enlisted at Fort George in 1885.
These state that he was previously in Military and had a purchased discharge.

Papers show that he served overseas, that he was in South Africa at 1900, looks like Germany in 1901 and was discharged in Feb 1902

Agree with Anne but whichever wife your friend is descended from that would be the one to go for.
