Marriage of my great aunt Eliza (Lillie) WILLIAMSON
« on: Friday 28 July 17 22:18 BST (UK) »
Hi
Just wondered if anyone could find any details about the marriage of my great aunt, Eliza WILLIAMSON and her husband Robert McLAUGHLIN.  Eliza was born 8 January 1902 in Bovally Townland to parents John WILLIAMSON and Sarah McPHERSON and I think she may have died about 16 June 1979 and is buried in the Drumachose Presbyterian Church in Limavady.  She had 4 sons (that I know of) and is believed to have farmed in the Ballykelly area with Robert.  I have no details about her husband, other than his name.  Thank you.

I think that Elizabeth’s marriage to Robert was registered in Limavady on 10.1.1928. The marriage cert should give you details of where they both lived etc. You can view the original certificate on-line on the GRONI website, using the “search registrations” option:

https://geni.nidirect.gov.uk

You will need to open an account and buy some credits. It costs £2.50 (sterling) to a view a certificate.

Children’s births within the past 100 years are not on-line in Northern Ireland. They are open to the public but to access them you either need to go to GRONI or PRONI in Belfast and search there. Or, if you can’t do that, contact GRONI and ask them to search for you. There may be a fee for that service.

Likewise deaths within the past 50 years are not on-line so I can’t confirm a 1979 date of death. However you can do that at GRONI or PRONI. If looking for probate files, they will be in PRONI but no information is on line for deaths after 1966. You need to search the wills calendars in PRONI.

The 1928 church marriage record identified Robert as a merchant of Main Street, Carndonagh and his father as Matthew McLaughlin, a flesher.

Looks like a possibility in 1901 and 1911:

http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Donegal/Carndonagh/Pound_Street/492936/

Robert in above census returns was born on 19 August 1896:

His parent's marriage registration:
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/marriage_returns/marriages_1896/10499/5823474.pdf

Looking at the information in the above census returns and the 1896 marriage registration, a possibility for Matthew McLaughlin is one baptised on 15 June 1862 in Carndonagh Presbyterian Church, birth date given as 23 May 1862, parents were Robert McLaughlin and Jane (Ann) Foster.  A number of other children were born to this couple: James in 1854, John in 1856, Anne in 1860, Susanna in 1864, Robert in 1867, William in 1869, Andrew in 1872, Jane Anne in 1876 - if you look at the civil birth registration for one of the later children, it confirms the father Robert was a butcher, for example, here is the 1867 birth registration for Matthew's brother Robert:
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/birth_returns/births_1867/03485/2281100.pdf

The church record for the marriage of Robert McLaughlin and Jane Foster on 10 March 1853 in Carndonagh Presbyterian Church shows that he was a butcher from Carndonagh, the son of Jame McLaughlin, she was from 'Glack Burnfoot', the daughter of John Foster, a farmer.
