John Gray Reid born in Kinfauns, Perthshire

My great, great, great grandfather John Gray Reid born in 1825 in Kinfauns, Perthshire. I am having a hard time finding his parents. John married Anne Morrison b. in 1829 somewhere in the Perthshire area. They left for Ontario, Canada sometime around the 1850 time range. If anyone can help with lineage for either of them.

John Morrison and Ann Reid seem to have married sometime in 1848. You will find entries (which will be banns rather than the actual marriage) for Ann Morrison in the Parish of Errol under the date of 20 May 1848 and for John Reid in the Parish of Kinfauns under the date of 2 June 1848. You can buy credits on <a href="https://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk">ScotlandsPeople</a> and view the entries in the Parish Registers which should give you a bit more information about the couple. It looks, however, as if Ann was from (or at least resident in) the Parish of Errol at the time. I am not familiar with the Old Parochial Registers in that county, so there may not be much more than a statement of John's occupation and residence at the time, but you may be lucky and it may give at least one of his parents. Similarly with Ann. When you then try to locate the two individuals in the 1841 Census you must, when looking for an Ann Morrison, also search under the variant form of the surname - Morison - and Ried / Reed as the semi-literate enumerator might have recorded him.

Extracted entries on IGI show the birth (13 Oct 1825) and christening (23 October 1825) in the Parish of Kinfauns of a John Gray Reid to a John Reid and Janet Macarthur. You will be able to view the original entry in the Old Parochial Registers online also on ScotlandsPeople. Middle names were not common at that time, so you are lucky that your John had a middle name and you can be virtually certain that this entry is your John - but always back that up with additional proof from as many other sources as possible. Ann Morrison, however, is not a sufficiently distinctive name, and any Ann Morrison you find in the baptismal registers is not necessarily going to be your Ann. There was no requirement for people to register the birth (/baptism) of their child before the introduction of civil registration in Scotland (1855) and the baptisms that can be found in the old registers represent just a portion of the births in each parish in any year. There will be plenty of people who did not have their children baptised. That said, however, IGI shows an Ann Morrison born 9 October 1829 and baptised 29 Nov 1829 in the Parish of Errol to a James Morrison and Ann Jack. That -may- be your Ann but it may not be. If it is, that would make her marrying aged 18, coming up for 19, depending on when the actual marriage took place.

In the OPR (deaths) in ScotlandsPeople there are 5 of the Reid name in Kinfauns.
The first one looks like the father John Reid and the last looks like the mother Janet.
Perhaps the rest are their bairns.
