Tacy was a girl. It was quite a common name for females in the 16th and 17th Centuries (Silent one). By the 18th Century more or less confined to Quakers.

To make any worthwhile suggestion we need to see the original entry.

Thank you for answers so far. Handwritten notes from entries in Disbursements book. 'phile' small 'p' is quite clear. What I wrote for this is all there is.

Of course, without seeing the source document, this is somewhat speculative, but the most likely word I would expect to see in this context is "Miss".  I wonder whether what looks like 'ph' is actually 'M', what looks like 'l' is actually a long 's', and the 'e' is actually a short 's'.

When a word doesn't seem to make sense, often it's not as clear as it seems to be.

Thank you for your input Steve. I don't think a photocopy of the page would change anything, the manuscript is quite clear. Background was father John died in 1749, leaving widow Hannah with three small children, Michael, Thomas and Tassee (Tacy).

1750 2d for Mick Griffiths, 1751 4d for Tom Griffits (sic), 1757 4d for Michollo Griffiths.

The familiarity shown to the childrens names suggest good feeling, not resentment these people living on the Parish.

I am descended from Thomas and one descendant of Michael may be a Rootschatter today, but we can't prove it.
