Robert BALL born abt 1770, Pinxton
« on: Monday 31 July 17 09:14 BST (UK) »
Just a quick query. I'm attempting to identify mid to late 18th century connections between the various lines of the BALL family.

From the 1841 and 1851 censuses I have come across Robert BALL born Pinxton about 1770, died before 1851. He probably married Esther Wright in Pinxton in June 1792 and had at least one child: Joseph born abt 1798.

Is there any indication of who Robert's parents were?

I have 185 members of the Ball family in my database - and there are frequently repeated given names amongst them: often leading to two or three people with the same name living at the same time. What is a little unusual is that this is the only Robert Ball I have come across.

Familysearch has a Robert Ball ch 1771 to Joseph and Elizabeth at Shirland - just 7 miles to Pixton.
Nothing coming up for a ch at Pinxton , even though they do seem to have Pinxton registers transcribed.

IS there any further information on the marriage of Robert and Esther in 1792? Have you seen the entry in the parish register?

Have you looked for a will of a Joseph Ball? May give places of residence, places of property, children's names and even their wives and /or grandchildren names.

The reference comes from  Derbyshire Marriage Index 1538 - 1910 Transcription on FindMyPast.

The reference to their son Joseph comes from the Baptism Index Transcription at the same source.

I haven't seen the actual records (no scans shown) and I haven't found anything else about Robert Ball.

Hello Alan, I am new to this site so sorry if I muck this up. My surname is Ball and I am related to the Balls of South Normanton/Pinxton.  Other strands of my history I have researched to 1080, but I am struggling to understand all the Balls prior to around 1800.  I believe my ancestors are Joseph Ball (b. abt 1795) possibly married to Ann Hardy (b. abt 1779).  But to be honest it is quite confusing.

You have clearly done a lot of research of these people and I wonder if you can share anything? I am reasonably certain of Jessie Ball and Mary Eyre (both b. Abt 1821).

Fingers crossed....
