mission impossible ?
« on: Monday 31 July 17 18:27 BST (UK) »
Hi all,

I know this is a longshot but I'll ask anyway:

Looking for a man who was stationed at RAF base Laarbruch in 1965. His name was Steve Bret/Bratt/Bareth or something similar.  He had a relationship with a dutch girl and they were expecting a child. But he had to return to England before his son was born. His son is now looking for him (or any siblings), but he has no further information about Steve. Just a photograph.
Steve would have been in his early twenties in 1965, so I would say born 1940's

Is it a mission impossible to find him ? Does anyone know where we can look for information or can anyone help us ?

Any help grately appreciated.

Hi,
as the person you are trying to find is likely to be still alive Rootschat prevents us from posting specific info. However, I have tried the names you mentioned for a birth on free bmd with no success but have found seven births for a Stephen Brett 1940's. If anyone can help you will be able to contacted by the private contact system.

I googled "stationed at RAF Laarbruch" and was surprised by the number of hits including the likes of this

https://bluedave.wordpress.com/raf-laarbruch/

someone else was also looking for their biological father.

Might be worthwhile reading and making contact but doubt they would confirm the airman's name on a public blog/forum if they had it.

that was a good find dawnsh.

I agree that it is unlikely  to give answers, ie names of ex serving soldiers. If you omit the real reason for your query and word it as a general lost touch, where is he now type of question someone may answer.

some newspapers have reunion sections asking named people to get in touch but that relies on knowing the area to target.

I think we can rule out national service men as  the last ones left in 1963, so we are looking for a regular serviceman, trade not known.
