« on: Monday 31 July 17 19:54 BST (UK) »
Hi All,
Today I tried to open ost file and got a 'Outlook stopped working' box appear.
Re-booted the computer and still getting the same error.
It has been working fine since I began to use it a year ago......

I'm running windows 8
Any help appreciated

Presumably you are using a fairly old version of MS Outlook, given the operating system you are using ?  Normally it gives you the option of starting Outlook in "Safe Mode" - did you not get this option ?

There are MS Office repair tools available free to download from the Microsoft site - assuming they are still available for your version, I would be inclined to start with one that if you can't start it in "Safe Mode"

If Outlook stops responding at a screen that says "Processing," you can close Outlook, start it in safe mode, then close it and open it normally to fix the problem.
- Close Outlook.
- Launch Outlook in safe mode by choosing one of the following options.
In Windows 8, on the Apps menu, choose Run, type Outlook /safe, and then choose OK.
- Close Outlook, and then open it normally
Also you can try open your file with the help of https://www.openfiletool.com/ostopen.html
