Signature and scene for recognition please
« on: Tuesday 01 August 17 10:23 BST (UK) »
I hope this is in the right part of the forum and that RootsChatters can help to solve an old family mystery.
Years ago my parents were given a numbered print of a scene which looks like a Belgian city, with a prominent canal.  Never having been there, they called it 'Bruges'.  When I had a chance to visit that city I took with me a photo of the picture but found no-one recognised it as a local scene, even those who ran boat tours of the canals.
The artist's signature also defeats us.  The picture is numbered at bottom left, 41/350.
Curiously, when watching an episode of the American TV comedy 'Cheers', in a rare scene set away from the usual bar, an apartment had not just the same print as ours, but a matching shot which must have been by the same artist.  An enquiry to the production company did not produce any result.
Any recognition of the scene or of the artist's signature would come as a welcome surprise.

Sorry about the over-sized signature and lack of the main print.  Having problems posting, but hope to be back when sorted.

From a quick look at Google images, the buildings look more like some in Amsterdam, though yours don't look as tall as the ones I found.

However, I have no personal knowledge of Belgium or the Netherlands, so there could easily be other possibilities.
Researching among others:
Bartle, Bilton, Bingley, Campbell, Craven, Emmott, Harcourt, Hirst, Kellet(t), Kennedy,
Meaburn, Mennile/Meynell, Metcalf(e), Palliser, Robinson, Rutter, Shipley, Stow, Wilkinson

I think it might be Ghent.  Could you take a photo from the front please, it's difficult to see at that angle.

Thanks for the two replies.
I'll try again for a better shot but the glass picks up lots of reflection.  Back later.

My first thought was the Netherlands, as said previously, the buildings have a Dutch feel to them, it's also as I remember Amsterdam.
