Im looking for any information about Herbert Cecil Gain, a grocer of Tunbridge Wells born 1864 in Portsea, Hampshire and his wife Florence Harriett Gain, nee Sheldon, born 1869 at Islington and their children (1) Florence Alice b1894 T.Wells (2) Herbert Guy Goodenough Gain born 1899 T.wells who in 1918 was living in S. Africa and died there (3) Cecil Harry Goodenough Gain, born 1899 T.Wells who died in Transval S.Africa (4) eva Joan Gain born 1903 T.Wells.
I know from the newspaper that in addition to being a grocer at 1 Grosvenor Road he resigned his position as councillor for the North Ward of T.Wells on February 3,1903 and there are references in the newspaper on Feb 6,1903 of him being in T.Wells taking at the Farmers Club about his experiences in S. Africa.
Travel records show that Herbert and his wife Florence and children Florence Alice,Herbert Guy and Cecil departed from Mozambique and arrived at Southampton Aug 2,1905. Also on another trip Florence and her children Florence, Herbert and Cecil and Eva departed from Cape Town arrived at Southampton Aug 11,1910.
I could not find any death records for any members of this family in England and I suspect that the family emigrated to S. Africa in 1903 but came back to England from time to time on visits. Any information about this family in South Africa would be appreciated.
