Norman Edward MacKeown when and where?!
« on: Wednesday 02 August 17 22:03 BST (UK) »
Im tracing Norman Edward MacKeown in WWI but am really struggling for records. Can any of you help out!?
born: 8/11/94 in Ballymena, Antrim, N.Ireland

There is a record of ONE Norman McKewan joining the King's (Liverpool Regiment) in Manchester in 1918 but I don't know if this is the same man.

Temporary Capt June 1918
1920 - Service ended. Left with rank of Captain having served in the Army Cyclist Corps, Tank Corps.

I'm afraid that's all I know!

How could somebody with christian names William Wilson morph into a Norman - just because they share the same surname??

You say you have no further info so how do you know he served in WW1?  What documentation do you have to support that?

Are you aware that over 60% of WW1 service records were burnt during the WW2 blitz?

Sorry! I got mixed up with his brother. It's Norman Edward.
Family lore places him in military service during WWI. All of his brothers also served.

What is your connection to this family as you have similar requests for other siblings.  Are you descended from one of the brothers?

Probably his records at the National Archives here http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/C1067839
not digitised hence not on line.  Medal record here http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/D3841883

His final rank was different to his medal card rank, quite normal.
