The original poster definitely needs the marriage certificate to find out the parentage of Mary and Elijah. Unfortunately the OP hasn't replied to any of the posts.

The Aughtons marrying in Birkdale are all distantly related to me!

There's a Mary Houghton registered in 1862 in Tarleton sub district of Ormskirk Registration District mother's maiden name Forshaw.

Lawrence Houghton married Jane Forshaw 1854 All Saints Hesketh with Becconsall.

There is a family in 1901, Elijah, wife Mary, in north Meols, with several children, one child Richard fits with a birth on gro mmn aughton, but this Mary gives her birthplace as parbold

Thanks - I have ordered the marriage certificate and am awaiting its arrival. It is one of those where it is needed! Yes Elijah is married to Mary Aughton and the Parbold entry on the 1901 census appears to be wrong, because everything else states Hesketh Bank. I had already ruled out Mary Ann.
