Thomas and Ann(Brain) Willis. -. Bitton/Hanham
« on: Friday 04 August 17 09:01 BST (UK) »
Thomas Willis married Ann Brain in Bitton on 21 August 1774.

It is possible that Thomas was baptised in Bitton on 17 Nov 1753, and Ann in Hanham on 13 Oct 1753 but I am willing to consider any alternative suggestions.

Is it too much to hope for their dates of death?

Their daughter, Hester, was baptised in Hanham  on 8 October 1775.  She subsequently married Daniel Britton in 1792. Did Thomas and Ann have any other children?

Any additional information relating to this family will be much appreciated.

Looking at the Forest of Dean Family History Forum

Gloucestershire Marriage Allegations 1637-1823, and Marriage Bonds - 1730 - 1823

(two records)

There would appear to be a

27 July 1777 (to marry a Bitton)

Thomas WILLIS (aged 24) - c1753 - Batchelor

Mary TRAMPTON (aged 24) - c1753 - Spinster

By Licence.

---
The second record states Thomas was a Farmer, and witnesses: Jonathan Couch a Farmer of Bitton and Jan Michell - bound to the sum of £200

---
??

This could be the same Thomas - as Batchelor can mean 'free to marry' as Widower wasn't always stated on old records.

Thanks, Capetown and Trish.

So it could be that Thomas (1753) married Mary Trampton and not Ann Brain. The baptisms Trish found suggest the possibility that  Ann was still alive at the time of the 1777 marriage.

Not quite sure what to make of Ann and Mary associated with the 1774 marriage.

The Bitton Families site interesting but not much help in this case. Just too many  Thomas Wiilis  around at the time.
