Sarah Cowan and Robert McGaffin

I have been trying to find a marriage record for Sarah Cowan (b. about 1848 parents John Cowan and Elizabeth McKnight) and Robert McGaffin (b. 19th May 1850 parents James & Matilda McGaffin). Both are from County Down, Ireland. The story is that they went to the United States to get married and then returned to Ireland. Their eldest son James Renwick McGaffin was born on 21st April 1878 so I assume they were married before that or in the same year. Can anyone help?

A possibility for Robert's sailing (although after a brief search, it doesn't appear that Sarah is on board)

Would you know Robert's occupation, please?  Did he have any family members who might have also sailed to North America?
