Together
William John  BECKWITH. Son of Thomas and Jemima. Born 5/6/1858. Died 11/11/1882
Jemima wife of Thomas William BECKWITH. 19/4/1886 Aged 56
Thomas William BECKWITH. 23/4/1888 Aged 55
Kate, daughter of Henry and Catherine BECKWITH. 8/12/1856 (18 months)

Jemima and Thomas William are not buried together. She is CofE and he is Wesleyan. Jemima is buried with her son who died 1882 (Replies # 11 an 12). So, I wonder which is wrong, the cemetery or the MIs?

Not unusual to have a headstone of family on one grave which memorialises family members buried elsewhere in the same cemetery. Coincidentally I have the same situation with gggrandmother and ggrandparents at St Kilda.  Often the headstones are erected many years after the burials.

I suppose when you consider it, the inscription is really a memorial, rather than a statement of "who lies in this plot", so the burial information is correct, no doubt, but these people are memorialized together.

I doubt there was room to bury Thomas W with his wife.  Funds would have been scarce as he was declared insolvent six months after his wife's death.  There is no probate file on PROV for him either.

The same happened at a local cemetery where three Beckwiths are named on the headstone, but only two in the official burial register.
I am most grateful for all the help I have had with this family, but am very happy with what I have and do not need more, unless any descendant of the Australian side turns up, in which case, welcome!
Ainslie

Edited to remove the confusing word 'not' and replacing it with 'very'.

I feel a bit confused by this statement.
Is it what you meant to say?
What is it in particular that you are not happy about?

EDIT
 ;D
Ainslie explains in Reply #24 (below)  there was a typing error in the above-quoted reply and her intended message was meant to say she is happy!

I have included the word 'not', which completely distorts my meaning.  I am very happy with the results, and will try to edit my previous post.

Ah! Well that is better news for those who have offered information. ;D
I'll edit my last post too so there is no confusion for future readers.
