Hello Carol,

There are 2 Local Councillor's for Adel who should be able to tell you what the job entailed.

(*)

Herbert J Laurie died as result of an accident 21st September 1939 and was buried in Leeds General Cemetery (Woodhouse) 26th September 1939, grave no. 4573.  Abode at death 34 New Adel Lane, Leeds.

Also in the same grave is Gertrude Bursnoll, age 26, who died 10th February 1901 and was buried 13th February 1901. Died of Phthisis, abode at death 9 Belle Vue Place, Leeds.

From the burial record Gertrude's father was John Webster (Pattern Maker) and her mother A. Webster.

Hope this information helps,

Ian

Thank you for that Ian.
I was guessing he may have been in a pauper's grave. He did not have a will.( Administration Wakefield 10 October to Alice Maud Laurie Widow. Effects 277 pounds.)She also received 300 pounds Compensation for his Death.

If she got £277 pounds and the £300, it hardly makes them paupers.

You are right but i am used to dollars and $700 is not much. But i guess it was 1939 and 700 pounds would have been a lot.

In 1933 my grandparents bought a house in Wembley near London for £595,now worth about £700,000. So £700 back then would certainly have been quite a bit of money. ;D

Have been trying to find the link between Gertrude Bursnoll and Herbert Laurie but hitting brick wall.
Gertrude Webster married Charles Bursnoll 1898 Mar Q.
Gertrude's parent's were John Webster and Alphea Hoyland.
Gertrude and Charles had a Son Horace Charles Bursnoll 19 July 1898.
In 1903 Charles remarried to Alice Webster (the older sister of Gertrude).
In 1911 we have;
Charley Bursnoll head  M  38 Printing Letter Press b Peterbro, Northamptonshire
Alice   Bursnoll   Wife   M   40  Married 8 years b Leeds Yorkshire
Gilbert John Bursnoll  Son  S  19  Printing Letterpress b Leeds Yorkshire
Horace Charles Bursnoll Son S  12 b Leeds Yorkshire
Margery Webster Bursnoll   Daug  7 b Leeds Yorkshire
Alice Webster Bursnoll  Daug 5 b Leeds Yorkshire
 Leeds, Burley Leeds, Yorkshire (West Riding), England;
Line 2 page 1   (FS)

Where did Gilbert come from as i cannot find a birth for him on Free BMD or GRO.
None of Herbert's Sibling's married a Hoyland or a Webster.

Well and truly stuck but do know more about Bursnoll
