Once that naturalisation file is available you should be able to compare the signature of that Peter Lester in 1869 with the signature on your chap's 1873 marriage  :) and either confirm or eliminate the naturalised chap.

RChat has a dedicated board just for help with that task  :)

KILLED ON THE RAILWAY
Melbourne  14th June.
The coroner held an inquest today concerning the death of Peter Lester, a carpenter, 72 years, whose body was found on the railway line at Richmond on Saturday morning last.  The deceased had been an invalid for 26 years and was depressed and appeared dazed when last seen alive by his wife.  Death was due to shock and haemorrhage which could have been caused by a blow from an engine.  The injuries were extensive.  The coroner found that body was picked up dead on the line, but that there was not sufficient evidence to show how he met his death.

Hi
Stumbled across this forum by googling for info on my great grandfather Peter Edward Lester.
On his death certificate it gives his birthplace as Hobart, Tasmania and had lived in Australia all his life.
In the biographical Index of South Australians it is "LND ENG".
The naturalization records will be interesting.
Looks like you have all got the Aloysius puzzle sorted.
Cheers

Hi Kliplok :)

Welcome to rootschat :).

Information on death certificates is only as good as the knowledge of the informant and unfortunately is not always inaccurate.  I have searched in Tasmania for his baptism and also for the his father John LESTER. There is a inn/hotel owner John Providence LESTER, who has many, many mentions in the Tasmanian newspapers from 1836 until his death in 1867.   Perhaps you may like to search for further information for a John LESTER in Tasmania on http://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/

The information from BISA was posted earlier on the thread.  The abbreviations are for London, England.  The abbreviations are known as the Chapman Code.  The information was submitted to SA Genealogy for publication in 1986....but I wonder who submitted it?  Usually a family member.

I think the naturalization record is for a Peter LESTER born Bremen, Germany with according to his death registration in 1911, parents, Peter LESTER and Anne MYERS. He married Mary LEY in 1868.   Persons born in England or Tasmania would not require naturalization.

Cheers

Irene

Freda Edith Nellie Rogers and Aloysius Woodbridge were married on 5th August 1920 at the Registry Office, registration district of Islington in the County of London.

Their son Peter was born on 30th August 1920, registration district of Holborn, sub-district of St Luke in the County of London.

Hmm.....  ::)

They went on to have 13 children of whom Ann (m. Carter) was my grandmother.
Are you able to assist me with any information on Peter prior to his arrival in Sth Aust. gradually
I am working through the 13 at a snail's pace but getting there however if you are a relative I would appreciate any advice on where I could find info.
Thanks in advance
Irene

Sorry, can't help you with mystery man Peter Edward Lester. The only lead I have is that he was reportedly involved in the Eureka Stockade but can't find anything further. We'll just have to keep digging! :(
