Have you checked Trove (Australian newspapers)?

Between 20th and 24th July the Argus and The Age (2 Melbourne papers) reported inquests into Callow, White, Smart, Bradshaw, Lange, Morton, Smith, Fitzgibbons

Hi Thank you both .
I have have used the link you provided . TY ,  which worked i now need the  brain power to navigate it . I have the newspaper report on file here somewhere so will find it again as i only wrote down the mans name .. Richard Malet. His address 143 Russell Street I read the newspaper report which said he became ill at work went home and passed away . they found powder in his room and suggested suicide. it noted there was to be an inquest that day . 22nd July 1887 . I am looking to verify his full name and if he is my relative . PS. it noted he was 'elderly ' my relative would have been 48-50 . Thank you . i will get organised and try and copy the newspaper report onto here .

Fred this is the cert details: Reg. year1887 Reg. no10906 MALET Richd Melbourne East aged 50

It can be purchased online: https://online.justice.vic.gov.au/bdm/indexsearch.doj?viewSequence=200&language=en&trxId=IDX&commandAction_displayDetailsAction%3DEB18B137DBE350ABC5364D1C5CA29DFC

It doesn't look like parents will be on the cert. As he was single and a boarder, rather than living with family, there may not have been much known to be put on the certificate.

Jamjar your link may possibly 'time out'.  I always suggest using this link.  You can purchase an image of the page in the register which includes the MALET death certificate.  Cost is AUD$25.10.  The website will ask for your name, address and email address prior to requesting payment by credit card.

https://online.justice.vic.gov.au/bdm/indexsearch.doj

There is no inquest on my resource nor on PROV. A death certificate would have been issued by the hospital with a valid cause of death which would have eliminated the requirement for an inquest.  Can't always believe what is in the press ;)
