Thanks for this information. Not sure if it will help me but it is another avenue to pursue. If only George Perry was more specific in what he meant by his occupation as an agent.

One thought I've had though is the address from which my great great grandfather gave on his marriage certificate - Maunsell Street, Dublin. Does this street still exist and what type of housing was it in 1851? Also Stafford Street where Catherine Slemen is said to have lived?

Luckily I found the street where my great grandmother was born - Hammond Lane - on Google. Sometimes knowing the type of house they lived in gives an indication of their wealth.

The Rathdowney George Perrys, there are at least two, probably father and son are merchants on the Will Calenders, as is another in Abbyleix.

I've had a good look through these but maybe I missed something.
