After William's last address of Concord, Ontario, Canada in 1893, I cannot find anything. With a common name and no middle initial, the William Balls I've found don't seem to match up.

Has anyone access to border crossing (Canada to USA) records, in case he moved to the USA?
Could he have returned to the UK?

William was one of seven siblings (3 sent to Canada, 4 remained in England).  His two brothers who also came to Canada before him (John and Alfred (my GGrandfather)) have been easier to find information on.  Their parents were Robert Isaac and Mary Ann (Gurney) Ball; Robert died and Mary Ann then married Emmanual Edwards, after which the children appearing to have lived at home, were sent to Canada.

Thank you.

Have you actually got him on the 1881 census with his parents, as this could be his death:
Deaths December quarter 1876
William Ball age 0 years at H. Hempstead (Birth in Hemel Hempstead to Ball/Gurney)

William was born in 1883, as found via the 1891 census and then GRO:

William Ball  mmn Gurney
March quarter 1883 in Hemel Hempstead

Sorry, this is family in 1881?
1881 census
Isaac Ball   47
Mary A. Ball   35  Piccotts End
Thomas Ball   11 (Born Thomas George)
William Ball   9  Crouchfield   (Born John William)
Jane Ball   7 Crouchfield  (1875, H Hempstead)
John Ball   5 H Hempstead (Born 1877?)
Alfred Ball   2 (Born 1879)

I found a William Ball as a step-son in 1891, but to the How family, not the Edwards.

Did Isaac (Robert Isaac Ball) die in 1886?

Emmanuel Edwards and Mary Ann are in the workhouse in 1891?

Hello MerseyJ and welcome to rootschat.

There are a couple of border crossings for a William BALL born 1876 on familysearch in 1907 and 1908. This William is a painter/decorator and married to a Kate. Does this sound like it could be you man? As chempat says, do you have any other details of his life in Canada?

Am assuming this is Alfred (b1879) and John (b1877) travelling to Canada in 1887

As I think William born 1876 died in 1876, and the next William was born in 1883 from the GRO reference, I think we need to confirm which William has been found in 1893 before looking for subsequent information on William born 1876.

I initially thought the William who died in 1876 is John William b 1872, GRO has his age as 4 - or is it 4 months? it's hard to tell on the GRO?). But I can see from the 1881 census that's not right.  A bit confusing as the children have similar names. These are the BALL children I can see born mmn GURNEY at Hemel Hemstead:

1869 Edward Thomas
1870 Thomas George
1872 Henry Charles
1872 John William (d 1876?)
1874  Mary Ann  (d 1877)
1875 Jane
1876  William (d 1876)
1877  John
1878  Frederick William
1879  Alfred
1879 Sarah Ann
1883  William
1884  Ethel

Modified to strike out John William's death
