Tithes Applotment Books
1823-1837

a single alphabetical list of each name entry,
containing the townland, & year recorded,
with the addition of parish and county

based upon the work of the
Irish Genealogy Hub’s
listing for each parish in Northern Ireland,
which are quicker to lookup if you know the parish!

The relevant original books are in the
Public Record Office of Northern Ireland (PRONI) Belfast

I think the parish was Newtownards for Elizabeth Filchie married John Dickson) whose father was John Filchie. I have some "stray" Filshies from Scotland which I was hoping to link to the Irish Filchies or Filcheys of the early to mid 1800's.

I have been shocked and thrown badly by learning of the death of Derrick Beattie the owner of a website that no longer functions and was the original www.newtownards. info   He had all the extractable entries from all sorts of sources and then had them grouped for family historians.Illustrations galore.  If his website has been lost it is a serious blow to anyone connected to Newtownards.  He had been the founder of the Newtownards Family History Society who I hope has access to that old website. It was an outstanding brilliant effort for helping others, without financial support.  I will remember him

well replied Maggie. It didnt occur to me that the Dickson you mention might be part of Dicksons Rose growers  Newtownards. if all else fails write to them its still run by the family.

Aparently someone has downloaded part of Derricks website and its online asSons and Daughters of Newtownards, but i havent found it yet. Having a break now

You would need to see original documentation to confirm, but my guess from looking at marriage transcriptions is that, in this instance, Elizabeth Filchie = Fitchie a.k.a. Fitchey.

When Elizabeth 'Filchie' married Comber man John Dixon on 7 July 1855 in Gilnahirk Presbyterian Church, Elizabeth's father John was recorded as a labourer and Elizabeth's address was Ballykeigle Kilmood (in the townland of Ballykeel).

Wind back a few years to 11 December 1849, a James Fitchie married Sarah Ray in Comber 2nd Presbyterian Church, James' father John was recorded as a labourer and James' address was... Ballykeigle.

Fast forward to 5 February 1859, a Robert Fitchie married Agnes Coulter in Comber 2nd Presbyterian Church, Robert's father John was recorded as a labourer and Robert's address was... Ballykeigle
