Michael Kiely 1874-1960's
« on: Monday 07 August 17 15:01 BST (UK) »
Michael Kiely born 1874 Kilrush, but died in Cork in the 1960's.

I have found a death record for a Michael Kiely who died in 1965 aged abt 81, but as I have discovered a lot of people didn't know their real age !!

This Michael died in St Patrick's Hospital, Cork City, was married, and his address was shown as Fr. Dominics Road, Ballyphehane.

I was wondering if it's possible to search the electoral registers for the 1960's at that address, to see if it shows his wife's name.

Thanks for any info or help.

Hi and welcome to rootschat ;D

Have you checked out the Irish census if he was born in 1874, then it is likely he will be married in 1901/1911 and that will show his wife/childrens names? There are 4 pages of people his name I put age '25' so it gives 5 yrs each side of that and of course you can see the image of the census too http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie

Hi, thanks for your reply.  This Michael is proving to be quite elusive...his parents had moved to Limerick by 1901, but he wasn't with them on either census.  As you said, he may have been married by then, but too many Michaels to check !
He had a daughter in 1935, so he must have had a much younger wife (maybe a second one) We can't find the daughter's birth details either, so it's all very intriguing.
This info has been word of mouth, so some of it could be taken with a pinch of salt.
However, I was hoping if the electoral registers could be checked it may even show his daughter, before she came to England in the 60's.
Thanks again

Have you looked for the daughter's birth, her mother's maiden name may be in the index.
https://familysearch.org/search/collection/list/?page=1&countryId=1927084
Or do you know the mother's name, if so look for the marriage and it will say if he is a widower

Sorry I didn't read carefully enough, you can't find the daughter's birth.

You say Michael was born Kilrush 1874
Is Jeremiah his father a shoemaker
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/birth_returns/births_1874/03133/2148973.pdf

There is a marriage of a Michael Kiely widower, Postman, father Jeremiah, a shoemaker in Sept 1930 Fermoy  to Frances Duggan. His age is 50 but he could have knocked a few years off.

Sinann...you have found him !  His father was Jeremiah.  Thank you very much for finding another piece of our jigsaw puzzle.

I will do a search later for children for Michael & Frances.

 :)
